Detailed itinerary

Day 01: Welcome to Uganda

Welcome to the Pearl of Africa as Uganda is being called. Our experienced drivers are waiting for you at the airport in order to transfer you, your bike and other luggage in a safe way to your guesthouse in Entebbe. There you can sit back, relax and get used to the African vibe. Meals are not included today.

Day 02: Lake Victoria Ride

In the morning, you will meet our team for a briefing. After, you will go to Kampala for your first ride. Today is all about getting used to the country and its roads. After a ride with a local fisherman’s boat, we will start off with a 20-25km ride on the shores of Lake Victoria. You will have the most beautiful views while getting used to the African vibe. After the ride, you will go back to Entebbe.

Toughness Distance 20-25km
Technicality Altimeters +350 / -345 m

Day 03: Transport & jungle ride

A morning transfer of approximately 6 hours takes us to Kibale Forest National Park, home to an estimated 1500 chimpanzees. After lunch, our cycling adventure continues with a 20-30km ride around Kibale and Bigodi Wetlands. The ride takes you off the usual paths around the forest, a whole different area then you have experienced the previous day. Keep a keen lookout for monkeys and maybe even a chimp, as they occasionally appear to observe us cyclists as we pass by the area.

Toughness Distance 25km
Technicality   Elevation +456 / -454 m

Day 04: Chimpanzee trekking

An exciting day ahead of you! In the morning you will hike in the jungle of Kibale Forest National Park to find your cousins; chimpanzees! Make sure you carry proper hiking boots with you and a rain jacket. Back at the lodge it’s time have lunch and leave for our next destination: Queen Elizabeth National Park. A 2-3 hours car transfer will bring you to the National Park border. On the way, you will cross the equator, where you can stop for a photo. We overnight safari-style, with animals roaming in and out of the camp and the sounds of hippos and hyenas accompanying our star-lit dinner.

Day 05: Safari boat ride & car safari

Get ready for another day full of wildlife. We start off with a morning boat ride on Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park, home to 95 different types of mammals and over 500 kinds of birds. During the boat ride, you might spot crocodiles, hippos, elephants, and buffaloes drinking along the shores! In the afternoon, you will go for another thrilling adventure: a game safari by car. Here, you will have the chance to see even more wildlife, like various types of antelopes, leopards, and if you are lucky, you might even catch sight of the famous tree-climbing lions!

Day 06: From Savannah to Jungle

Time to jump on our bicycles again. Today, we will have a change of scenery! We are leaving the flat savanna and heading up to the jungle. Along the way, we will pass by many local farms, that are growing crops like millet, rice, coffee, and bananas. You will also get to see beautiful tea plantations. We will stop at a local restaurant in a small trading centre, to enjoy the delightful flavors of traditional Ugandan cuisine for lunch. After, we will load the bicycles on the cars and drive the final stretch to your next lodge, situated on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to the mighty mountain gorillas.

Toughness Distance 42km
Technicality Elevation +650 / -415 m

Day 07: Gorilla Trekking

Today, you will get to meet some of our closest family members, the mountain gorillas, in an once-in-a-lifetime experience. After an early morning briefing by a ranger, you will start the tracking of the wild mountain gorillas. Due to the nature of tracking wild gorillas, who move throughout the forest in small family groups, tracking is tricky and is conducted based on where rangers believe the groups are and will go that day. To minimize the impact of human tourists on the gorillas, the tracking group size is kept to a minimum. The rangers are experienced trackers, but in some cases, it can take some time to find the gorillas. The hike through dense vegetation can take up to 5 hours. Once they have been located, you are allowed to observe for a maximum of 1 hour. After the trekking, the driver will take you to the next lodge.

Day 08: The lake of 1.000 small birds

We will cycle straight through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in order to reach civilization again. Though we descend more overall than we climb, it doesn’t mean we won’t still have some major hills to tackle today. Once out of the forest we will see some impressive terraced fields where the locals grow a variety of crops. Be sure to look out for island-dotted Lake Bunyoni in the distance. Meaning “the place of little birds” the lake is believed to be Africa’s second deepest and has 29 islands of all shapes and sizes. We will have lunch on the shore of the lake and afterwards take a 45-minute boat ride to the tranquil island where we will stay the night.

Toughness Distance 40km
Technicality Elevation +692 m / -1056 m

Day 09: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

We will leave after breakfast to digest some kilometers by car to reach Lake Mburo National Park. After lunch, there is time to explore the area a bit. You can also decide to go for an optional walking safari or an optional night game drive inside the park. We will have a cozy dinner at the lodge afterward. Sleep tight with the savannah sounds of laughing hyenas and grumpy hippos in the background.

Day 10: Safari Cycling

Wake up and have your breakfast when looking out over the park. In the early morning there is a high chance that animals have approached the lodge to graze. After breakfast we will do a cycling tour inside the park. Expect to encounter zebra’s, antelopes and buffaloes on the road and hopefully you will ride between a group of giraffes. We will make short stops at the hippo pool and Kazuma viewpoint. In the afternoon we will be back on the tarmac road for a 4-hour drive back to Entebbe. For the second time we will cross the equator where we shall make a short stop.
